My Favorite Albums Of 2009 v2

Posted By Ben W. on March 26, 2009

464671753_c81189c406As reported in the first of this series — My Favorite Albums Of 2009 (1) — the first two months of this year gave us precious little in the way of exciting music.

That music critics around the world felt compelled to heap pounds of praise on middling works by Bruce Spingsteen and Antony & The Johnsons only highlighted the dearth of quality new tunes facing us in January and February.

And lucky me, I started a music blog right in the middle of this drought.

But look at this. March has brought sweet spring rains to this musical Dust Bowl. Sweet spring rains in the form of The Decemberists, Pete Doherty, Pet Shop Boys and Super Furry Animals.

Finally, a Best Of 2009 list worthy of the word “Best” …

Hi Ben! Found your blog through Courtney’s blog. I don’t have anything intelligent to say, but I’m planning to sort of hang around and learn some things about music. :)

In my opinion, Fever Ray is the best album I’ve heard thus far this year. It’s Karen Olssenn from the Knife minus her brother, and if you haven’t heard it; get it. Wonderfully minimalist and beautiful songs. I think I may have liked “The Crying Light” more than a lot of people. I saw him do most of those songs live and it caused me to like them more. Also, I’m really digging Camera Obscura’s “My Maudlin Career” as well. Yet, the year is still young! Great website though, I have been writing my own reviews for about a year and just publishing them in my myspace blog for now, if you are interested check them out.
