My Favorite Albums Of 2009 v4

78812343_1cccb5083a_o1Surprisingly little has changed on my 2009 music radar since I turned in my Midyear Report almost two months ago. It’s been a fairly dry summer new-release wise.

I’ve really enjoyed new albums from the Fiery Furnaces and the Duckworth Lewis Method. I’ve also been able to go back and find new appreciations for the Sunset Rubdown and Grizzly Bear records. I still don’t like them half as much as every other indie critic out there seems to, but I can at least admit they are worth existing. Probably.

My biggest change of tune, though, is with MF Doom. I really didn’t like his new album two months ago. “I don’t really ever know what he’s rapping about, and by the end of this album, I’m not sure I really care,” I wrote back in June.

But something clicked. I stopped focusing on the pretensions and just enjoyed the absurd wordplay and gritty production. I still don’t often know what he’s rapping about, but this time I don’t mind going along for the ride anyway.

Here’s my latest top 56:

great list, but no Clues? Alden Penner’s new band. This is in my top 5 of the year, thus far

Perhaps I should given modern-day Morrissey a second chance …
