12:12 Tune of the Day: Flex – Mad Cobra

Posted By Ben W. on October 28, 2009

We’d be remiss if we hyped Dancehall music of the early 90s all week and didn’t include this one.

I think “Flex” was on the radio about 12 times a day for six months in 1992. But you know what? It’s so good, it never really got played out. And it still sounds good nearly two decades later.

The flip side to the violence of this era’s Dancehall music was the romantic quiet storm stuff, and you won’t find a better example of that than “Flex.” OK, “Mr. Loverman” is a pretty solid start, too. But “Flex” is today’s 12:12 Tuner, not “Mr. Loverman,” so enjoy!

All week we’re highlighting long-lost dancehall classics from when reggae went rap — 1991-1995 — in the 12:12 Tune of the Day feature. Click here for Monday’s blast of Supercat, or here for Tuesday’s Born Jamericans.
