My Favorite 75 Albums Of 2009 – Dec. 18

We’ve entered the final third of the Great 2009 Album Advent Calendar Countdown. And I’m officially out of witty blog intros.

Just go read the post, OK?

24. Face Control – Handsome Furs

Surprisingly ace sophomore record from Dan Boeckner – aka the singer in Wolf Parade who isn’t Spencer Krug. I’ve always been partial to Krug’s work, both in Wolf Parade and his own side project Sunset Rubdown. Not this time, though. This album actually is better than last year’s Wolf Parade disc.

23. The Blueprint 3 – Jay-Z

I don’t want to say Jay had fallen off. That’s not quite right. But there’s no denying this album restored his name back to the forefront of popular hip hop. When you’ve got singles like “Death Of Auto-Tune,” “Run This Town,” and “Empire State Of Mind” back to back to back on a record, you’re gonna move some units. Hit. Hitter. Hittest.

22. Attention Deficit — Wale

Long touted as one of hip hop’s future stars, Wale doesn’t quite reach the crossover-pop-superstar-with-street-cred status he craves on his debut album. He spreads himself a little too thin, both beat wise and lyrically, trying to do a bit too much at once. When you get past the fact that it isn’t a stone-cold classic, though, you can appreciate the album for what it is – one of the best rap records of the year.

Check back tomorrow for Day 19 of the Advent calendar countdown. We’ll be listing three albums every day from now through Christmas when we get to No. 1.
