Here we go. The Super Sixty.

This is where things start getting interesting.

In retrospect, maybe I should’ve just started here instead at 75. But too late now. It’s Dec. 6. Must press on.

No regrets.

No.

Regrets.

60. The Crying Light — Antony And The Johnsons

Antony’s new album is 10 tracks of pretty singing. The song ratio goes something like 3 to 2 — beautiful to boring. So that’s pretty good.

59. Don’t Stop — Annie

Critics have hailed this as a phenomenal comeback album for Annie after four years off. They talk about her music as being somehow more intelligent, maybe more important, than your standard dance-pop fluff. Eh, I just don’t see it. Annie makes standard dance-pop fluff. And that’s fine with me. This album has some really awesome dance-pop fluff on it.

58. My Way — Ian Brown

Always a man of modesty (he once named a studio album Golden Greats), Brown urged fans to go buy My Way, calling it the best album of his solo career while comparing it to Thriller. Well, he got the first part right. It’s probably his finest album, as a whole, since the Stone Roses days. His adherence to ’90s MIDI keyboard production is odd, and kind of funny. His lyrics aren’t really worth a toss. But damn, I still love his menacing hushed vocals, and every track here has a winning melody.

Check back tomorrow for Day 7 of the Advent calendar countdown. We’ll be listing three albums every day from now through Christmas when we get to No. 1.
